Pipeline Indoor 4X first night
The first Pipeline Indoor 4X race meet of this year went down last night near the Abbotsford Agrifair Arena. I made it out to two race nights last year, and every time it's a blast. The number of competitors was way up this year for the first night.

Race Season Comes to an end for Team Dunbar
Well... 2007 race season has come to a wrap. It wrapped up at the Harvest Huckfest in Whistler where most of the team raced. The main event was the Team A-line race. Aaron, Ben, Justin and there female Erin came 3rd in their cat. Jev and Ross' team came 11th overall.

Light DH Cranksets - At last...
I have been running the RaceFace Diabolus (Diabolical) crank-set for some time now, and I have never been happy with the weight of these cranks. They come with a life time guarantee, and are frankly bomb-proof, but this reliability comes at the weight of a small child. The RaceFace Atlas crank-set is what I have always wanted to put on my Wilson, but the company seem pretty stubborn about not releasing the Atlas with a 83mm BB. Clearly there is demand for such a crankset, as they made up a custom crankset for the whole Commencal team. It is possible to fit the smaller BB width on a Wilson, with some hack-sawing and filing, but as Ross found out, it's just a bit too tight. Crank / chain-stay rubbing action was always going to be inevitable.
FSA/Gravity seem to be the first company with a decent light-weight crankset offering that
comes in a 83mm BB spacing. Called the Gravity Light Crankset the FSA/Gravity boys did away with the excuses of their peers, and filled a big vacuum in the DH componentry market. About time I say, so long Diabolicals, hello Gravity Light....

Recent Pictures
Here are some pictures we have taken over Spring Break on our trip to Vegas and Utah
We spent 3 days in Bootleg Canyon in Nevada, and 3 days in Virgin Utah. In Virgin we rode the Rampage coarse and some other trails including Bender's trail Flying Monkey.

The trip was a tone of fun! Everyone rode hard and good but we have 2 really good crashes, Dobie on the 4th day got caught by the wind going off a 20 ft across 10 ft down road gap at the Red Bull Rampage Site. He concussed him self and was talking silly for a full day.
Also a day before Cammy snapped his frame in two at the dirt jumps at bootleg canyon... He had to go to the hospital and get some stitches in his month and also get a lot of X-rays.
Other then that the trip was great... Thanks to Georgy for taking and helping us get there.

The road home...
What a trip! It's Monday the 16th and we are on the I-5 somewhere in Washington state heading for glorious Canadia... eh?
We had some good times in Monterey, along with some stories to tell. The Sea Otter DH course was a hell of a lot more fun this year compared to 2006, but it's still a horrid peddle fest to race. Ross had a crash in practice, no serious injuries, just a lot of road rash on his arms and legs. Graham was the only one of the three of us that didn't crash in his race run, which is funny considering the ear full he got from myself and Ross about how easy and flat the course was.
I crashed in my race run, half way down my run. I got cross rutted and went over, again nothing serious, just some road rash, but I lost a lot of time. Ross crashed coming across the finish line, and Graham had a clean run of it.
Right after the DH was finished we packed the car and headed north. We made it back to Ashland, and got put up for another night at Elijah and Chase's place, which beat the hell out of having to pitch a tent. Oregon is probably my favorite US state now.
Hell of a road trip, I think we will definitely do it again next year. The next race is on the Sunshine Coast - The Rat Race on the 6th of May. Uhh huh, now that's what I'm talkin' about.

Hello, San Francisco
We stayed in San Francisco for three nights at a friends house right on Ocean Beach. Gee and Ross surfed Ocean Beach as well as Pacifica which is a bit further south. The wind has been pretty hefty, and there was a strong rip which made things challenging for the guys. I just knew better and stayed on land!
We got some sight seeing in, crossed the Golden Gate and cruised around the Head Lands in Marin County. The last time I was in this city I couldn't see anything because of the fog, it's a cool looking city, but not much beats the view of the local Vancouver mountains.
This morning we drove further south to Santa Cruz where there was a nice south swell with some good waves. I caught one wave, and another caught me. I'm not sure I'm cut out for this surfing lark at all!
Some of the locals were shredding waves that were breaking right on the beach. It looked pretty gnarly. If a fella was to fall, he'd bounce on the sand just before getting pummeled by these waves. Cool to watch though!
After we finished up in Santa Cruz we headed for Monterey, where we registered for our races. We got a pretty big land when we found out that the organizers wanted $60 bucks a night for a camp spot. Feckin ludicrous! We ended up paying a total of $70 a night for a motel with a double bed each. Nice!
We got a cheeky run in on the course this evening too. Basically the organizers just left the cource dry out from last year, and added some new corners just by getting creative with the course tape. They spent some effort on building some sort of wooden humpty bendy back bridge at the bottom, which adds no value to the course.
But at least it's not raining! There is rain forecast for next Saturday, so heres hoping we won't have a repeat of last years nasty mud fest!
